"The Captain" has defined the Detroit Red Wings my entire adult life. He was the person the Red Wings looked to lead them to Lord Stanley's cup. He was the person they looked to for the big goal. He was the person they looked to for the great pass. He was the person they looked to for the inspirational speach. For 20+ years he was the Red Wings. He has now taken his place among the great sports figures from Michigan.
Last evening, Steve Yzerman was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. A recogintion well deserved.
Yzerman is one the those throw back athletes. He is loyal to the team that drafted him number 4 overall in the 1983 draft, spending his in entire career in Hockeytown. He is the silent leader who avoided trouble. He is a role model for kids. He is the person hockey players should aspire to be.
Steve Yzerman is arguably the greatest sports figure in Michigan sports history. In my opinion, he is the greatest. Yes, bigger than Gordie Howe, Al Kaline, Joe Dumars, Alan Trammell, etc. Congrats!!!!!!!!!
Chris Berman exposed
Boomer has a potty mouth. Beware of explicit, but funny lanugage. I had one of those days last week:) Smile Chris, and have a cold pint.

Ah Christian, its a generational thing. Al Kaline and Gordie Howe are mythical gods to old Millington guys. To us, Stevie Y was a great athlete. But I certainly understand your "youthful" admiration.
Fuck Berman...primadona sonofabitch. get over yourself assclown!
lol.....Say what you really mean Jon! Hey, how 'bout those Cardinals last night?
OMG - it is a generational thing. But with Howe and Kaline, every major sports city had their version of those two. Yzerman was probably the last of that dying breed of athlete.
Sorry, TV sports guys rile me up!
You should hear my commentary on the (a) local guy(s).
Berman represents all that is wrong with TV sports. Cliches, being pompus, only caring about making themselves look good, oh and kissing major ass to every jockstrap in America.
So again...well, re-read my post, I don't what to curse again
A minor Gordie Howe story. Back in the day - the 80's, there was a popular game called Trivia Pursuit (imagine a game that required no electricity).
When playing this game, a friend's wife would answer "Gordie Howe" for every hockey question. She was right more often than wrong.
Gordie Howe was and still is the Hockey Zeus.
That is how we used to answer all the soccer questions in Trivial Pursuit (Pele) :)
Wow, they actually asked questions about hockey?
According to ESPN, hockey died out 3 years ago...
Jon, please substitute ESPN for Berman in your post above. :)
